NMIMS MBA in Financial Management

Semester III Project Pre-work and Semester IV Capstone Project

The NMIMS MBA in Financial Management follows a structured project approach that enables students to develop financial analysis, research, and practical problem-solving skills. The Semester III Project Pre-work helps students prepare for the major capstone project by identifying a relevant financial or business problem, defining project objectives, reviewing existing literature, and selecting appropriate research methodologies. Students can explore areas such as financial planning, investment analysis, capital budgeting, working capital management, risk assessment, corporate finance, and financial performance evaluation.

Semester III – Project Pre-work

Two-Stage Project Structure: The project is divided into two stages:

  • Semester III: Project Pre-work (Zero Credits) – Optional but strongly recommended.
  • Semester IV: Major Capstone Project (6 Credits) – Mandatory.

Purpose of Project Pre-work (Semester III): The zero-credit stage in Semester III is designed to help students begin their project journey early. Although participation is optional, this stage provides valuable guidance in selecting a suitable topic, defining research objectives, and preparing a clear project plan, thereby supporting successful completion in Semester IV.

Selection of Project Format: During Semester III, students must select one of the following approved project formats:

Research-Based Project: Involves conducting a systematic literature review to examine existing financial theories, research studies, and industry findings. The project identifies research gaps, develops a logical research argument, and draws meaningful conclusions supported by relevant evidence.

Business Plan: Focuses on identifying a business opportunity, market gap, or unmet customer need and developing a viable business solution. It includes market analysis, business objectives, operational strategies, financial projections, and an implementation plan to evaluate feasibility and long-term sustainability.

Problem-Solving Proposal: Addresses a specific financial, operational, managerial, or organisational issue within the student’s department or workplace. It involves identifying the root causes of the problem, evaluating possible solutions, and recommending practical, evidence-based strategies to improve financial performance, operational efficiency, or managerial decision-making.

Project Title Submission Based on Area of Specialisation: Students must submit a project title that clearly reflects their chosen specialisation and the intended focus of their research or business investigation.

Relevance to Area of Specialisation: The project title must align with the student’s selected area of specialisation. The scope and focus should demonstrate relevant subject knowledge and practical business application.

Students specialising in Financial Management, Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, Operations & Data Science Management, Information Technology, Business Analytics, and Business Management must select topics directly related to their respective specialisations.

Alignment and Review: The submitted project title will be reviewed by the faculty mentor to assess its relevance to the selected specialisation, clarity of objectives, and suitability for the proposed project format. Students may receive feedback and be required to revise their titles before proceeding to the next stage.
