Chandigarh University Project Guidelines

The document explains the project proposal, approval, allocation, supervisor interactions, evaluation process and final project submission requirements.

Project Proposal and Approval

Project Selection

  • Students can select a project proposed by a faculty supervisor or submit their own project idea through their CUIMS account.
  • Students can propose only one individual project idea.
  • Faculty supervisors may propose projects and appoint co-supervisors.
  • Student-proposed ideas are visible to department faculty members. An interested faculty member can accept the idea and develop the project objectives after discussion with the student.

Project Approval

  • The Head of Department (HoD) constitutes a Project Approval/Vetting Committee to assess project quality and feasibility.
  • The committee can accept or reject proposals with comments.
  • Rejected proposals may be resubmitted after incorporating the suggested changes.
  • Approved projects are added to the project basket for student allocation.

Project Allocation and Supervisor Interaction

Project Allocation

  • Students can express preferences for available projects through CUIMS.
  • Supervisors select students and form project teams.
  • Students who are not selected or do not submit preferences are treated as unallocated and may be allocated by the HoD.

Supervisor Meetings

  • Students must meet their supervisor and co-supervisor at least twice a week for discussions, reviews and feedback.
  • A minimum of two contact hours per week is specified.
  • Supervisors maintain interaction records, including attendance and meeting minutes, through CUIMS.

Project Development and Evaluation

Four Phases of Project Work

  1. Project Scope and Task Planning: Identify the problem, define project objectives and prepare a timeline.
  2. Background Study/Literature Review: Review previous research, identify gaps and establish project goals.
  3. Design and Methodology: Identify constraints, evaluate alternative solutions and select the most suitable approach.
  4. Detailed Design and Documentation: Implement the solution, conduct testing and prepare the project report.

Evaluation and Final Submission

  • Students undergo five internal evaluation phases and one end-term evaluation.
  • Project progress must be demonstrated through documentation and presentations.
  • All project-related materials must be uploaded to UIMS before end-term evaluation.
  • Students absent from scheduled evaluations may receive zero marks for the respective phase.
  • The document requires submission of two papers: one review paper and one research paper. The department accepts papers published in IEEE or Scopus.

Academic Integrity and Plagiarism

Projects containing copied content from ChatGPT, AI tools, or other external sources may receive ZERO MARKS as per the university’s academic integrity and plagiarism policy. Students must ensure that their projects are 100% customised, original, and plagiarism-free, based on their selected specialisation, research objectives, and individual understanding. All references and sources must be properly acknowledged.
