NMIMS MBA in Marketing Management

Semester III Project Pre-work and Semester IV Capstone Project

The NMIMS MBA in Marketing Management follows a structured project approach that enables students to develop marketing research skills, strategic thinking, and practical problem-solving capabilities.

The Semester III Project Pre-work helps students prepare for the major capstone project by identifying a relevant marketing problem, defining project objectives, reviewing existing literature, and selecting suitable research methodologies.

Students can explore topics such as consumer behaviour, digital marketing strategies, brand management, market segmentation, customer relationship management, advertising effectiveness, and sales performance.

Semester III – Project Pre-work

Two-Stage Project Structure: The project is divided into two stages: Semester III: Project Pre-work (Zero Credits) – Optional but strongly recommended; and Semester IV: Major Capstone Project (6 Credits) – Mandatory.

Purpose of Project Pre-work (Semester III): The zero-credit stage in Semester III is designed to help students begin their project journey early. Although participation is optional, this stage provides valuable guidance in selecting a suitable marketing topic, defining research objectives, and planning the project methodology, improving preparedness for successful completion in Semester IV.

Selection of Project Format: During Semester III, students must select one of the following approved project formats:

Research-Based Project: Involves reviewing existing marketing research, theories, and industry studies to investigate a specific marketing issue. Students identify research gaps, develop a clear research argument, and draw evidence-based conclusions on topics such as consumer preferences, brand loyalty, or digital marketing effectiveness.

Business Plan: Focuses on identifying a market opportunity or unmet customer need and developing a viable marketing-oriented business proposal. It includes target market analysis, competitor assessment, positioning strategy, promotional planning, pricing, sales projections, and an implementation roadmap.

Problem-Solving Proposal: Addresses a specific marketing challenge within an organisation, such as declining sales, low customer retention, ineffective promotional campaigns, or weak brand awareness. Students analyse the underlying causes and recommend practical, evidence-based strategies to improve marketing performance.

Project Title Submission Based on Area of Specialisation: Students must submit a project title that clearly reflects their chosen specialisation in Marketing Management.

Relevance to Area of Specialisation: The project topic must align with Marketing Management and demonstrate the application of relevant marketing concepts. Suitable areas include digital marketing, consumer behaviour, market research, brand management, advertising, product development, pricing strategies, and customer relationship management.

Alignment and Review: The submitted project title will be reviewed by the faculty mentor to assess its relevance, scope, and alignment with the selected specialisation. Based on the feedback received, students may need to refine the title or research objectives before proceeding to the next stage.

Semester IV – Major Capstone Project

The Semester IV Major Capstone Project (6 Credits) requires students to develop their approved project into a comprehensive study or business proposal. Students apply relevant marketing theories, research methods, and analytical techniques to investigate the selected problem, interpret findings, and formulate actionable recommendations. The final report should demonstrate critical thinking, practical application, and a clear understanding of marketing management principles while adhering to the latest applicable NMIMS project guidelines.
